The Human Resource is one of the main departments in a business that was established to serve the rights of the employees and the policy of the organization. It is then divided into sub disciplines which consist of Compensation and Benefits as one of the essence in the structure of managing an entire workforce. Not only that when Patel calls Chandan to engage his holidays in his office, Chandan disagrees and tells his father that he would come only if his sister comes with him to office. When his father calls him he tells his father that he would take Tara with him as she will become a great business woman. The lines are† You can take Tara. She’ll make a great business woman†. Tara has very high ambition in her life. We can see this from her words. TARA. Oh! What a waste! A Waste of money . Why spend all the money to keep me alive? It cannot matter whether I live or die. There are thousands of poor sick people on the roads who could be given care and attention, and I think I know what I will make of myself. I will be a carer for those people . Or I could join Mother Teresa and sacrifice myself to a great cause. That may give purpose to my existence . I can do it . I can do it , can`t I ? Her words describe her very bombastic work she is going to do in future. There are few people who come forward to help poor and needy people who need love and care. Instead of all her illness and weakness, she utters those words. This proves that she has very high will power and ambition. If her parents have given her moral support she would have shone like a star as her name describes. If she has given the opportunities she would have dazzled the whole world. When Chandan asks his mother about her plan in Tara’s life. She tells him that she plan for her happiness which is not appropriate. His father also does not have any plan for Tara. We cannot leave girls who have high ambition as it is; instead we should motivate them and give them moral support. If we give importance to girls then for sure our country will become one of the developed nations. Not giving preference to girls is like not giving preference to half of the world. If we unite hands together and work surely we will get rewards for our works. Dattani portrays the money minded society through Dr. Thakkar. Dr. Thakkar is the famous doctor of that period in separating conjoined twins through surgery. We consider Doctors as ‘God like’ but we see corruption exists in their area also and they are also money minded. Dr. Thakkar has agreed to favour boy child as Chandan’s grandfather promises to give him a land in the main town of the city. He also used his power of politics to do this injustice. But the third leg was useful to the child only for 2 days which would be Tara’s. From this we can see the ethical deterioration of medical profession. All the good values in this world are lessening day by day. Days have come, when we have money we can achieve anything. We can see a thread of female Infanticide in this play. In Roopa’s conversation we can come to know that on those days Patel families used to kill the female infanticides. Many parents consider their girl children as burden because of dowry and other things. On those days many girl children are killed by their own parents. This corruption is still happening in the current society. As a result of this, female birth rates are lessening and female babies deaths rate are rising. As a consequence of this partiality and injustice, Both Tara’s mother Bharathi and her brother Chandan suffers from guilt. Guilt torments them a lot. Bharathi is unable to come out of the guilt and so she tries to compromise his wrong deeds by showering lots of love upon her daughter Tara. She even comes forward to donate her kidney to her daughter. But in between these actions she becomes mentally ill and so admitted in the hospital and at last faces pitiable death. His father calls Chandan for the death of his mother but Chandan hates his father and does not go to the death as he lost all loved ones. Chandan, her brother also suffers from guilt and so he confesses like this in the below lines. â€Å"Forgive me, Tara. Forgive me for making it my tragedy. † As Tara doesn’t get good attention and care, she also faces pitiable death. Thus the whole family ends in a tragedy. Dattani very clearly and beautifully has brought many of the social issues and its consequences in the play Tara.

Robert Frost Essay -- Biography

Robert Frost once said, â€Å"Always fall in with what you’re ask to accept. Take what is given, and make it over your way. My aim in life has always been to hold my own with whatever’s going. Not against: with†(Quotes). Frost’s life and time period exemplified his quote as he experienced the technological changes of the twentieth century. Through these experiences, he entertained and taught his readers through his competitive poetry like his poem â€Å"The Road Not Taken†. Robert Frost was born on March 26, 1874, in San Francisco, California. William, his father, was a Journalist and Isabelle, his mother, was a teacher. His parents’ occupations sparked his early interest as a writer. Isabelle shared her love of literature and poetry with her son. When Frost was eleven, his mother took him and his sister, Jeanie, to live with his father’s parents in Lawrence, Massachusetts. William’s death left Robert and his family poor and dependent upon their cynical family members who believed Isabelle to be at fault for William’s death (DeFusco 13-15). Robert attended Lawrence High School where his mother encouraged him to maintain high academics. His desire to write poetry did not begin until the first two years of high school. Frost’s home life and inability to adjust to life in the North created his artistic aspirations. His first poems were published in the school newspaper his sophomore year. After he graduated, Frost’s grandparents ordered him to attend Dartmouth College, but he dropped out after seven weeks (DeFusco 15-16). Then Frost decided to work at a wool mill to save enough money to marry Elinor White. In the winter of 1895, at the age of twenty-one, Elinor and Frost were married. His first son was born a year later, named Elliot. Ag... ...ntieth century. This theme was one of the many ideals that sparked the Progressive Movement allowing people to have the equal opportunity determine their own destiny. When people are suddenly exposed to freedom of choice, they are slow to react and do not have a grasp of what they want. This inexperience makes people not able to differentiate between two choices thus causing a person to hesitate and doubt oneself when finalizing their judgment. When writing this poem, Frost believed that the content of the poem was more important than the style. He however paid close attention to meter using iambic pentameter and a rhyme scheme of abaab. The only style he refused to write in was free verse because he believed â€Å"a good map carried its own scale of miles†(cite). He wrote his poetry instead in â€Å"natural speaking patterns† because it was more appealing to readers.

Ethical Issue of the Contraceptive Mandate Essay

The issue of the contraception mandate may be one of the biggest political stories of the year. It is a law brought forward by the Obama administration that requires all employers to offer contraceptive coverage. This has been a requirement for all company healthcare coverage programs for many years already but religious affiliates have been exempt from following the rules. Obama is looking to change all that by requiring even religion-based employers, who have previously not offered coverage, to participate. Such services required by the contraception mandate will violate some of these religion-based employers’ moral conscience. Rule: From the contraception mandate issue, two opposing ethical rules are rights and justice/fairness. From Velasquez’s Business Ethics: Concepts and Cases, the rights rule is â€Å"an individual’s entitlement to something.† It can address the contraception mandate from both an individual and a corporate issue. The rights rule is being processed more from the religious-based employers point of view. The justice/fairness rule being discussed in this case brief is the egalitarianism view. Egalitarianism is â€Å"every person should be given exactly equal shares of a society’s or a group’s benefits and burdens.† It addresses the contraception mandate from a systemic issue Analysis: 1. Rights: Religious institutions do not want to have to cover birth control in their insurance plans for employees. Such services required by the contraception mandate will violate these religion-based institutions’ moral conscience. Thus, the contraception mandate can be viewed as an obstruction of the constitutional rights presented in the First Amendment. The First Amendment of the United States Constitution reads as following: â€Å"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.† In the First Amendment, all individuals are entitled to freedom of religion. Many of the religion-based institutions claim that the first amendment allows people the freedom to follow their religious convictions and that they cannot be forced to act against them. The government through the contraception mandate is forcing constraints on the religious freedom of the religious affiliated institutions and their employees. 2. Justice/Fairness: The justice/fairness rule of egalitarianism will say the contraception mandate is about women’s health rights. According to an egalitarian, goods should be allocated to people in equal portions. Thus, all women should have access to equal healthcare services, including the contraceptive services. The egalitarianism view argues that supporting a rights rule would limit the whole population based on someone else’s moral ideals and not scientific medical information. Women, along with many men, want to have sex for non-procreative purposes despite â€Å"edicts† passed down by religious texts. Women should have access to contraceptives. Egalitarians also argue everyone is entitled to practice their own religion and refrain from taking birth control, but every employer is prevented from discriminating against their employees on the basis of religious freedom. The reversal of the contraception mandate would be a huge setback for women’s reproductive freedom. It would go back to say women’s bodies are not their own. Conclusion: In my opinion, I believe that the rights rule is the correct approach to the contraception mandate. All companies, excluding religion-based employers, before were required to provide contraceptive coverage. Now under the Health and Human Services contraception mandate, those religious-based employers are required to provide contraceptive coverage. The First Amendment promises the entitlement to religious freedom and the practicing religious convictions. I believe forcing this healthcare service onto religious affiliated institutions is obstructing their right to practice religious convictions, hence their moral convictions. The larger portion of employed women will already be covered prior to this contraception mandate. It is only the addition of employed women at religious affiliated institutions. I am inclined to think the female employees of religious affiliated institutions would share the same religious and moral views of that religious affiliated institution. If a religious affiliated institution believes it is morally accepting for the use of contraceptives, good for them. But for a religious affiliated institution that believes it is against their religious convictions to provide employees with contraceptives, the government should not have any authority to force such a mandate. Following political backlash for the contraception mandate, President Obama has since revised the original mandate. He has added an â€Å"accommodation,† somewhat like a clause, that allows the religion-based employers the opportunity to opt out and not have to directly cover birth control in their healthcare insurance plans. The insurance company hired to cover the religious affiliated institution’s employees cannot opt out. The insurers themselves would be required to make contraceptives available free of charge to women anyway. This is a clear political move to gain more favoritism in hopes of a reelection. I see this move by Obama as an attempted reversal of the mandate after viewing the religious opposition that was evoked by mandate. Also what Obama has failed to think of are the business implications of this new â€Å"accommodation†Ã¢â‚¬â€offering the contraceptives at no cost from the opted out religious affiliated employer and employees. Insurance companies will not offer this benefit at no cost; contraceptive drug companies will not offer the medicine at no cost; and doctors will not provide treatment without payment. The only logical conclusion, at least the short run, will result in higher healthcare insurance premiums. To have avoided religious invasion, political backlash, and increased insurance premiums, I logically propose the Obama Administration should simply give women without access to contraceptive services a federal voucher.

Problems began when, the third estate started to fight for a horizontal form of government instead of the vertical monarchy that was taking place. To overthrow the monarchy the third estate formed the National Assembly and announced the end of feudalism and serfdom in France. But as the revolution progressed, different factions arose within the National Convention. Jean- Paul Marat, a popular newspaper publisher during the Revolution, was a representative of the Mountain faction in Pariss National Convention. The Mountain Faction represented a completely horizontal government. However, a popular bourgeois group, the Girondians, wanted a decentralized form of government in which various provinces or departments would determine their own affairs. The Girondians wanted this type of government to defend their principles of property and economic freedom. After the National Convention, Marat became disliked by the Girondians because of their opposing view points. He was especially detested by an educated Girondian woman named Marie- Anne Charlotte Corday. She believed Marat was the biggest problem of the Revolution because of the material printed in his newspaper. Corday loathed Marat and his viewpoints so much, stabbed and killed him with a kitchen knife. Marats death was a shock to France and especially to Jacques- Louis David, another political leader and reprehensive of Paris during the National Convention. David, also a prominent artist, was assigned to paint a commemoration of Marats death. The characteristics of Davids painting give Marat a religious pathos by making him appear to be a saint-like martyr. The objects in the painting suggest Marats revolutionary ethos. By painting the Marat i son dernier soupir, David also made a political statement to defile the Girondians. Various components of the painting symbolize Marat as having a religious pathos making him appear saint-like. In the Catholic society, saints are seen as superior figures in society that the community is meant to respect and emulate. During the French Revolution, Christianity was abolished making it impossible for Marat to be a saint. However, David depicted Marat as being saint-like so that the third estate would see him as a respectful leader that should be praised. David used a religious pathos to make a beneficial political statement about Marat. The painting has a lot of open space. Marats face the focal point, because it is the first object to appear out of the painting. The light and the expression on his face make him look calm and peaceful. Even though he has just been stabbed, his tranquil face makes him appear saintly because he has no fear of death. Marat has died for a noble cause. The painting also has a small spectrum of colors consisting mostly of white and brown tones. Marats body is pale and covered in white sheets, but the background of the painting is mostly dark tones which contrast with Marats body. This affect makes Marat become even more prominent in the painting. The white sheets around his body and on his head give Marat purity. The sheets make him appear more divine and glorify his death, because they suggest that Marat was an excellent leader that thought about the benefit of the Revolution before anything else. In Davids painting Marat appears to meet all of the requirements to being a saint. Marat is venerable because he is surrounded by the work of the Revolution in the painting. Marat was very heroic to be leading the people to a republic, because with so many different view points in the Revolution he, consequently, formed many enemies. In the painting, Marat also appears to have a miracle attributed to him. He has the light shinning down upon him, making him look angelic. Marat helped France to become a horizontal government which is a miracle because he gave people freedom and the ability to have control over their own country. Lastly, Marat is a martyr because he died for the Revolution. This is displayed as the deep gouge on Marats chest and the blood in the painting. Marat died for the Revolution and became one of its immortal icons. Through the symbolism in the painting Marat is displayed as being saintly. The few objects in the painting, the box, writing utensil, and letter, are very symbolic and important objects because they depict Marats a revolutionary ethos. The use of space in the painting is very simple. Marat is only surrounded by a few belongings which David wanted Marat to be associated with. The box that Marat has his paperwork on is directly in front of the green cloth that covers Marats bath. This makes the light brown box that Marat has his work on become very prominent. By doing this the box looks very sturdy and unbreakable. This is symbolic for Marats dedication to the Revolution. The box shows that Marat was always working for the revolution even when he was sick and forced to stay in his bath. The writing utensil in his right hand is extremely noticeable, despite its shady surroundings. Even the letter in his left hand and the papers under his arm are accentuated to stress the seriousness of Marats work. David wanted the audience to be able to see the physical state of Marat when he was assassinated. Even though various items that were really in the room where left out of the painting, David wanted the community to associate Marat with the work and dedication of the Revolution. David also wanted Marat to be remembered by these objects because they make him appear as though his life was devoted to the revolution. By adding remnants of Corday and by using specific coloring and lighting, David made a political statement to degrade the Girondians. David wanted to defile the Girondians in his painting because of their opposing viewpoints and because they killed Marat. The darkness in the painting is associated with the Girondians. Most of the canvas of the painting has been painted in darker tons. Where there are darker tons of colors, there are also ruminants of how Corday killed Marat. The knife Corday used to stab Marat is placed on the dark floor. The knife is also very hard to see itself. Even Marats chest, where he was stabbed, is darker than the rest of his body. Because she was a Girondians, Corday thought she was serving France by killing Marat, but the painting expresses how even though Marat was killed, the other leaders of the Mountain faction would continue to support and enforce his ideas. David was telling his audience that the Girondians would never be successful in winning the Revolution because the will of Marats followers was greater than the Girondians could ever be. The uneven parts of the lighting on the top of the canvas suggest betrayal by Corday against the Revolution, because Corday tainted the community by killing one of its popular leaders. Marat represents the light colors which are pure and good, while Corday represents the dark colors that could possibly ruin the French Revolution and all it stands for. David knew that his painting would be displayed in public, which gave him great power to persuade the ideas of the community. Because of the influence he had, David depicted Marat as having a revolutionary ethos. In his painting, Marat i son dernier soupiralso, David also gives Marat a religious pathos because it makes him appear like a saintly martyr that died for the revolution. David makes a political statement against the Girondians and Corday. During the turmoil of the Revolution, the Girondians were a faction from the National Assembly. They were a bourgeois group that wanted to protect their property and economic freedom. However, the Mountain faction favored and fought for equal sovereignty between classes. After many years of fighting the Mountain faction dominated and France became a Republic. Amongst all of the chaos, Marats death helped the third estate fight for their equality and to overthrow the monarchy.

The Top-Down Theory Of Policy Implementation Essay There are three well-defined theories on the implementation of policies.   One of these is the top-down school of thought, led by Van Meter and Van Horn (1975), Nakamura and Smallwood (1980) and Mazmanian and Sabatier (1983), which describes the act of putting policies into action as a hierarchical operation of a centrally-defined policy plan.   Unlike the bottom-up theory of policy implementation (Hjern and Hull, 1982) which is motivated by daily problem-solving tactics, the top-down theory focuses on the capacity of the decision makers to generate clear and definite policy goals and management strategies during policy implementation. The theory is based on the premise that a motion has been formulated by a decision-making body or central council.   The tenet of this theory is that there is a direct correlation between a policy and an actual outcome, and in turn, take no consideration of the effect of implementers on the actual delivery of the policy.   This rigid approach perceives the theory in a simple straightforward formula wherein the policy is the input itself and the implementation as the actual output.    In addition, the employment of a chain of command in the top-down theory creates an impression that this school of thought is a â€Å"governing elite phenomenon.†Ã‚   Thus, the idea of implementation actually means that bureaucratic measures are to be launched to guarantee that the policies will be perfectly carried out.   Such setting will require a reliable amount of resources, since the theory acts on a command-level basis.   Several agencies will be necessary for the monitoring and implementation of policies, making sure that the goals per level are accomplished to the exact detail and expectation. There are a number of variables that influence policy implementation using the top-down approach—1) the policy objectives should be clear and consistent, 2) the program is based on a legitimate causal theory, 3) the implementing personnel or officials are committed to the objectives of the program, and 4) the implementation program is properly configured. The theory seems to be strong and reliable, but knowing the principle behind the top-down theory, this will entail a huge network of personnel that will individually work out their assignments at their respective control level.   The precise functioning of such hierarchical structure is therefore very difficult to actually execute unless the program heads or leaders are extremely driven to see the ultimate results of their policy implementation. Another shortcoming of the top-down theory involves the characteristic that the policy goals can not be changed.   This setting requires that a policy and its goals can only be modified after a consensus is reached by the governing body.   However, before a consensus is achieved, several evaluations and reassessments are necessary, in order to convince the majority of the governing body that a change is necessary and justifiable.   Therefore, a successful strategy for policy implementation should involve a meticulous, cautious and rigorous program design that will withstand problems relating to the implementation of a policy through a sequence of authority. Many pre-service teachers are members of the net generation and are expected to be familiar with different ICTs, yet several studies have indicated that they are not necessarily able to use them for teaching and learning (Kontkanen et. al, 2014). Consequently, a great deal of researchers has been carried out to help to advance the pedagogical knowledge and application of ICT in education. These studies focus on the importance of future t eachers’ understanding, not only about how to use ICT but also about the specific knowledge involved in the pedagogical use of ICT, and the full comprehension of the impact of technology on learning processes. Integrating ICT in Science has been most often utilized in teaching where students learn best if they have accessibility to view and/or hear a certain lesson through the audio-visual presentation. Mavellas (2017), in their research paper titled â€Å"Assessment Of The Availability And Utilization Of ICTs For Teaching And Learning In Secondary Schools – Case Of A High School In Kwekwe, Zimbabwe† revealed that there are unavailability and inadequacy of ICTs required for training. The available ICTs are not being utilized to its highest extent that made it a factor affecting or hindering the use of available resources in schools. In Chile, an international study was conducted in the Initial Teacher Tra ining about the availability and use of ICT that was developed since late 2008. It provides required vision, experience, and skills for enabling future teachers to integrate ICT into their professional practices in primary and secondary education levels (Brun & Hinostroza, 2014). The Philippines is a developing country in Southeast Asia whose educational system shares many of the same problems and limitations as those of its fellow developing nations. Some provincial schools lack chairs and tables, blackboards, and laboratory equipment. Some do not have electricity and water. The role of ICT in education is deemed vital but there are factors that hinder the effective integration of ICT which includes the scarcity of ICT resources, such as the limited number of computers and the unavailability of Internet services (Dela Rosa, 2016). Despite these conditions, the Philippines along with other countries in Asia, are generally interested in ICT hoping that their educational systems reap the pedagogical benefits associated with it. There are arguments that have been still debated until today about the implications and impacts of technology to the society whether it is useful or not. Shan Fu (2013), cited the implications of ICT in education and how ICT integration is beneficial. It has been found to assist students in accessing digital information efficiently and effectively. Students have more access to acquiring knowledge and comprehension in different concepts when they are engaged in the application of ICT. They create new knowledge out of what they have learned through accessing, selecting, organizing, and interpreting information and data which leads to producing a creative environment. ICT also enables students to work collaboratively in a distance-learning environment such as teleconferencing. The teaching and learning quality will also improve through the use of ICT in which there are more opportunities to develop critical higher order thinking skills. Researchers have demonstrated that using some ICT tools benefits students better than relying on traditional methods, for example, Alharbi (2014), conducted a study aimed to investigate the advantages and disadvantages of using ICT in the classroom for teachers and students in selected subjects in the curriculum. The research has shown that if students are less able in ICT use, then they will be less likely to fully appreciate or achieve the benefits offered by it through teaching and learning.
